Expressing regret that he was absent on Lessmann's recent visit, saying they could have spoken about the present musical conditions, which Raff cannot and will not put in writing, saying that an appointment for longer than one year cannot be granted, that even Müller, justifiably preceded by his reputation as a performing musician and as a conductor, had to begin with a one-year engagement, saying that if the position were so "platt und eben" and required only conducting symphony concerts during the winter Raff might himself have taken up the baton, mentioning [Louis] Lüstner, Seÿfritz [i.e. Max Seifriz?], etc.
