Thanking him for his favorable comments on Berger's compositions, saying there is no truth to The Times's statement that the Philharmonic will produce a new symphony by Saint-Saëns, that works commissioned by the Directors include pieces by Grieg and Tchaikovsky (his first appearance as conductor in England), Widor, etc., and asking if Bennett will write the analytical notes for the Philharmonic concerts beginning 22 April [1888].
