Autograph letter signed, dated : [Paris], to [William Duncan Davison], 1870 Feb. 23.

Reporting that owing to the success of "La bohémienne" [The Bohemian Girl] he will receive the decoration of the Légion d'Honneur, saying that he has "knocked at Death's door" but is now better, expressing the hope of returning to London soon, and adding that "The old Bohemian Girl has saved the Théâtre Lyrique from shutting its doors, and really the French public love Balfe's music. This is a fact--!--!"
