Autograph letter signed, dated : Weimar Oct. 24 1855, to [Franziska Elisabeth von Bülow], 1855 Oct. 24.

Discussing his daughters [Cosima and Blandine, who were recently sent to live with the Bülows in Berlin], saying that in entrusting them to her he hid nothing, disguised nothing of what he considered to be the faults in their character, asking her not to spare them the instruction they deserve, especially regarding their audacity ("outrecuidance") and their feverish vanity ("vanité fievreuse"), expressing the hope that, little by little, they will learn their faults and learn to correct them, expressing his great affection for her son [Hans von Bülow], saying that marriage may no more be to his taste than it is in the interest of his career and that, should he decide on it later, he will hardly have any trouble finding choices far more favorable than Liszt's daughters, etc., and ending: "Mes filles sont encore des enfans et ne peuvent être traités que comme tels."
