Saying that he would be delighted to help Mozart's sister [Nannerl], but that "most severe calamities have occurred in my connexion, and I have found myself called on to make pecuniary sacrifices, which the state of my own family will hardly justify," and asking that "If, when you get to Germany, you should find the old Lady alive, and in the state which has been described, you will do me a favour to employ a sovereign on my account," etc.
