Sending him a copy of a score that has been published for the piano and will probably later be published in full score, adding that he doubts that people will like it but that because he loves it he is sending it as a gift, reporting that he has recovered from his recent serious illness, saying that he has decided never to take a theatre job and therefore declines the conductorship in Brunswick but would very much like to have an opera of his performed, saying that he never reads the musical papers and that he (or rather his father) made it his rule never to write in public, that he has also stopped umpiring musical contests, giving his reasons, mentioning Spohr, Reissiger, etc., etc.
