Of a personal, affectionate, and occasionally philosophical nature, discussing rehearsals, orchestras, his conducting, various critics and publishers, his travel plans, commenting at length on Goethe's Faust, mentioning his Third and Fourth Symphonies, Schumann's First Symphony, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Wagner's Meistersinger, Roller, Anna and Carl Moll, Nodnagel, Hinrichsen, Straube, Kahnt, Nikisch, and other persons, etc. In the note he tells her of a good hotel on Toblachersee; it is written on the back of a printed map showing train routes in southern Austria.
