John C. Kunze was born in Saxony at Artern on the Unstrut and graduated from the University of Leipzig in 1763. Established in 1797 as the first Lutheran Seminary in the United States. John Christopher Hartwick (1714-1796) was born in Molschleben, Germany and educated at the University of Halle.
