The largest portion of the collection consists of the records (ledger and account books) of T.F. & T. Jewett, a firm in South Berwick, Maine which dealt in general store merchandise, lumber, and also built ships. Besides T.F. & T. Jewett, there is an account book for William D. Jewett & Company, storekeepers, South Berwick, 1834-1836; of an unidentified Jewett who imported tobacco for making into cigars in Berwick, 1823-1836. There are agreements for building the ship Marion, 1823-1824; and accounts of the brig Perseverance and the ship Resolution, 1810-1812; the ship Olive and Eliza, 1826-1844; and the ship Harriet Rockwell, 1838. The Jewetts served as assignees for Colcord & Cogswell and Hayes & Cogswell, 1826-1840. There are also four volumes of ledgers and daybooks, 1840-1859, of Dr. Theodore H. Jewett of South Berwick, recording fees for visits and charges for medicines.
