Eudora Welty papers, 1951-1957 (bulk 1951-1952).

The Eudora Welty Papers contain thirty-nine letters, two postcards, two greeting cards, newspaper clippings, and a pamphlet. The majority of the correspondence is written from Welty to John F. Robinson, with the exception of a letter written to Welty from her editor with a handwritten note from her mother on the verso, and some letters to Robinson from his colleagues. Numerous letters discuss Robinson's attempts to publish and reflect Welty's push for him to keep submitting and creating more literary works. She heavily critiques some of his work through her correspondence and briefly mentions her own struggles with writing. Her letters also make reference to Robinson's long-time companion, Enzo Rocchigiani, authors Elizabeth Bowen, Elizabeth Spencer, and Katherine Anne Porter, as well as mutual friends and colleagues. Other topics she mentions are her impressions of Ireland,England, and New York as she worked and traveled. She mentions the work and activities of contemporaneous writers and artists, some of whom she is acquainted with and others she is merely commenting upon.
