Isaac Sorensen was born on February 24, 1840, in Sjaelland, Denmark. He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after missionaries visited his father in 1854. The family relocated to Mill Creek, Utah, in 1857, and Sorensen soon moved to Cache Valley where he helped establish the community of Mendon.
