Ben Lewis' forty-two-year teaching career at Oberlin College is documented mainly by administrative correspondence (1926-65) and by files relating to his work for the Faculty-Trustee Conference Committee (1947- 59). The bulk of the collection, dating from 1958 to 1974, pertains to Lewis' service as a consultant for the Ford Foundation's Overseas Development Program. Files document his work as economic consultant to governments in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Lewis' early career with the federal government (1933-44) under President Franklin D. Roosevelt is documented through correspondence, memoranda, and official reports. Also present are ms. drafts of his articles and books, and notes for talks.
