Household inventory, [ca.1881-1889?].

Household inventory of Franklin H. Delano and his wife, Laura Astor Delano. The inventory is arranged by room, including 3 parlors, a dining room, breakfast room, library, office, 7 bedrooms, several halls and corridors, various other small rooms, 2 verandas, and a portico. The descriptions of the objects are often very detailed; evaluations are given for some things; and dates, probably recording the year that items were acquired, appear in several instances. At least one item was purchased in Europe during the Delanos' 1881 visit. Many objects were, in fact, of European origin, but the compiler did not necessarily note if the Delanos acquired them in Europe or the United States. One loose sheet inventories a porcelain dinner and dessert service.

Franklin H. Delano and his wife, Laura Astor Delano, had two homes in the 1880s: one at 190 Madison Avenue, New York City, and the other in Tarrytown, along the Hudson River. This inventory was probably compiled for the Hudson River estate during the 1880s; it was definitely done after 1881 (a carpet was ordered in that year, during the couple's trip to Europe). Franklin's niece, Sara Delano, married James Roosevelt, and they named their son, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, after her Uncle Franklin. ...
