The Irwin family is one that can trace its genealogy back to the earliest days of the history of Scotland. It was William Irwin (1701-1787) who emigrated from Scotland to Pennsylvania in 1729. Later descendants served in the American Revolution. One of the more important family members was Batte Irwin, who lived in Charlotte, NC from 1809 to 1854.
