Irwin family
Hide Profile
The Irwin family is one that can trace its genealogy back to the earliest days of the history of Scotland. It was William Irwin (1701-1787) who emigrated from Scotland to Pennsylvania in 1729. Later descendants served in the American Revolution. One of the more important family members was Batte Irwin, who lived in Charlotte, NC from 1809 to 1854. He and his wife, Mary Hays Robinson Irwn, had a son, John Robinson Irwin, whose life is most extensively documented in this collection. John R. Irwin became a doctor and some of his descendants are living in the Charlotte area to this day.
