Glen Guttormsen, Associate Executive Vice President of Business Affairs, San Jose State University, 1948-1984 : an oral history / conducted by the San Jose State University archivist, H. Brett Melendy 1984.

Glem Guttormsen talks about his youth while living in the Campbell, California , when it was not a city yet, and the fruit picking education he got at his grandmother's farm. He also talks about the cannery industry in Campbell and the process that went into cutting, pitting, drying and canning fruit. He goes on further to discuss his education at San Jose State as a business major and his first position right out of school as a business manager assistant at San Jose State College. He discusses budget planning for the campus and the first faculty council, now called the Academic Senate as well as the forming of the first president's council. He talks about working with President Clark and the difficulties of student unrest during the 1960s. He recalls being in charge of business affairs, campus security and campus police, and having to decide to call the city police on students during the Dow Chemical riots. He recalls the faculty strike and the subsequent student unrest on campus and how fires were set all around campus, windows were broken, threats of further unrest were issued by rioters and how these threats caused President Clark to cancel the Brigham Young University football game.

Born in Eureka, California, H. Brett Melendy (1924-2008) spent most of his life in California and Hawaii. He received his Master of Arts in Education in 1948 and his Doctorate in History in 1952 from Stanford University. During this time, he also taught high school in Fresno, California.
