Records, 1815-1990.

The records of the Oberlin College Library cover the years 1815- 1990, with the bulk falling between 1950 and 1990. These materials provide evidence of the work of five College Librarians as well as the development of librarianship in a small college liberal arts setting. Except for some gaps in the pre-1887 years and missing annual reports for 1973-78, the files in this record group are essentially complete. Correspondence of various directors has been preserved since 1908. The largest group of files documents the work of the Acquisitions Department through formal reports, individual gift files, and documentation on acquisition activities for each college department. Among the most interesting and best documented topics is the development of the Judaic and Near Eastern Studies Collection.
