First commissioned February 22, 1850 as 2nd Lieutenant of Washington Artillery of Pottsville, Pa.; 2nd commissioned January 8, 1851 as 1st Lieutenant; 3rd commissioned August 1, 1855 as Adjutant of 1st Regiment, 1st Brigade, 6th Division composed of the Militia of Pennsylvania which included Schuylkill, Carbon and Monroe counties; 4th commissioned June 6, 1859; 5th commissioned September 6, 1859. He left for Washington, D.C. April 17, 1861 and became a part of the "First Defenders"...
