Henry Marshall of DeSoto Parish, La., was a wealthy cotton planter and slaveholder. He served as a member of the Louisiana State Senate, delegate to the Louisiana secession convention (1861), delegate to the Confederate Provisional Congress (1861-1862) and as representative from Louisiana to the Confederate Congress. Henry Watkins Allen, a lawyer in Mississippi, married Salome Crane (d. 1851) in 1842. He was elected to the Mississippi State Legislature in 1845. He moved to Louisiana in 1852, worked as a planter on Allendale Plantation, and was elected to the Louisiana State Legislature in 1854. Allen served in the Civil War as a lieutenant-colonel in the Delta Rifles of the 4th Louisiana Regiment.
