Leroy Moncure Nutt papers, 1835-1927 (bulk 1866-1867) [manuscript].

Papers pertaining primarily to Confederate Lieut. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest (1821-1877) and his men. The bulk of the collection consists of letters, 1866-1867, from veterans of Forrest's command written to Forrest or to his biographers, Gen. Thomas Jordan (1819-1895) and J. P. Pryor. These detailed letters contain descriptions of the service of various Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, and Mississippi regiments and batteries, primarily in Tennessee; sketches of fellow officers killed in the war; narratives of battles; and eyewitness accounts of Forrest himself. Also included are military messages from Forrest's adjutant regarding troop movements in the Nashville campaign, November-December 1864, and scattered personal and military papers of Leroy Moncure Nutt of Shreveport, La., captain of scouts in the Army of Tennessee.
