Wendell Holmes Stephenson papers, 1862-1947 (bulk 1917-1947)

Professional papers of Wendell Holmes Stephenson consist largely of handwritten and typewritten notes on acts of the Louisiana Legislature during the nineteenth century. Many of the notes concern acts dealing with slaves and slavery, free people of color in the state, the incorporation of Roman Catholic and other congregations, and the creation of towns and parishes in Louisiana. Other papers include correspondence, notes, and memos pertaining to the affairs of the University Senate at Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College; and miscellaneous printed items relating to labor conditions in the Southern U.S.
