Moses Young accepted an appointment as secretary to South Carolinian Henry Laurens (1724-1792), a U.S. Continental Congressman and foreign minister, in October 1779 for an embassy to Holland. Captured with Henry Laurens, Young was imprisoned in England until his escape in February 1781 after which he made his way to France where he remained until Laurens was released from the Tower of London.
