The North Dakota Catholic Church Records consist of detailed questionnaires sent to Catholic parishes in North Dakota, issued by Bishop John Shanley of the Fargo Diocese. The completed questionnaires contain information about church construction, parish history, early missionaries, pastors, financial statements, religious education, schools, cemeteries, church organizations, laymen, and size of parish. Completed questionnaires are from the Fargo and Bismarck dioceses, but the collection from the Bismarck Diocese appears to be incomplete. The records were microfilmed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota in the early 1960s. The microfilm set was originally part of the papers of Rev. Albert A. A. Schmirler (Collection 779).
