Classicist William Everett was born in Massachusetts, and educated at Harvard and Cambridge; he took one degree in law, and also studied for the ministry. He held positions as an educator at Harvard, Adams Academy, and other institutions, and served in Congress as a Democrat, completing the term of the resigned Henry Cabot Lodge. He grew up, had a family, and bought property in Stratford while working in London, the center of English theater.
