The Paul Kohlmann, S.J., papers, 1815-1819.

The Kohlmann papers consist of one bound volume, the bulk of which is a heavily annotated copy of vol. 1 of Joannes Caspar Saettler's Theologia moralis universa (Strasbourg, 1776). Bound with it is a printed German catechism, several pages of manuscript notes in various hands, and the manuscript of an exhortation in English, ca. 1815-1819, to the slaves at White Marsh, the Jesuit plantation in Prince George's County, Md. The address to the slaves is here attributed to Paul Kohlmann, who was at White Marsh in 1819, but has in the past been credited to Kohlmann's brother, Anthony, who was master of novices at White Marsh during 1815-17 and became tenth president of Georgetown College in 1820. Accompanying the bound volume is a typed transcription of the 'exhortation'.
