Margaret "Peg" Anderson succeeded Roxanne Barton Conlin as president of the Iowa Women's Political Caucus (IWPC) in 1975. In 1977 she served as an Iowa delegate to the National Women's Conference in Houston. She also headed the effort to pass an Equal Rights Amendment to the Iowa state constitution on the 1980 ballot. Comprised of approximately fifty member organizations, the Iowa ERA Coalition was formed in 1978 to rally support for the state Equal Rights Amendment. Margaret "Peg" Anderson, a longtime Iowa resident who had a varied political career, was the state chairperson and main spokesperson of the Iowa ERA Coalition.
