Comprised of approximately fifty member organizations, the Iowa ERA Coalition was formed in 1978 to rally support for the state Equal Rights Amendment. Margaret "Peg" Anderson, a longtime Iowa resident who had a varied political career, was the state chairperson and main spokesperson of the Iowa ERA Coalition. The Coalition was disbanded in 1980 when Iowa voters defeated the E.R.A. initiative by a 56 to 44 percent margin.
