Josephus Eastman diary, 1863.

Journal entries for June 26 and June 27, 1863 document the arrival of the first train in Grinnell. The train was operated by the Mississippi and Missouri Railroad Company.

Eastman was a native of New Hampshire. He earned a law degree from Hartford College and practiced law in Boston for about 10 years before removing to Eldora, Iowa in 1858 where he practiced law with his brother, Enoch W. Eastman.
