Chester D. Jarvis papers, 1909-1913.

The Chester D. Jarvis papers consist of the professional correspondence of Jarvis during the dates 1909-1913. The papers cover a wide range of topics, including job offers from competing institutions, a department automobile purchase. lecture topics, and budgetary matters. Forty-three of the approximately 120 letters are between Jarvis and college president Charles L. Beach. An undated copy of the first annual report of the Extension Service is located in folder 6.

Chester D. Jarvis ( 1876-1948 ) was a horticulturist who worked at the Connecticut Agricultural College from 1906-1915 . He began in the Agricultural Experiment Station and was later named director of the reorganized Extension Service in 1913. Jarvis served in the latter capacity until 1915 when he became a specialist in Agricultural Education for the Department of Agriculture. From the guide to the Chester D.
