Hans Lowenbach joined the Duke Medical faculty in 1940, serving as a professor of neurology from 1940 to 1963 and chair of the Department of Psychiatry from 1951 to 1953. He returned to Duke as a visiting professor in the early 1970s and later served as professor emeritus of psychiatry and assistant professor emeritus of pediatrics at Duke.
