Ulrich Ruegg Ellis was a journalist from 1921-1925. From 1928-1936 he was Political Secretary to Earle Page leader of the Federal Country Party. Following this period he made trips overseas to Europe from 1936-1939 where he met Lloyd George and Winston Churchill. Between 1936-1940 he was commercial intelligence officer at the Department of Commerce. Page, a surgeon during World War I, was elected to the federal seat of Cowper in 1919; helped found the Country Party and was leader from 1920 to 1939; was Treasurer in the Bruce-Page government, 1923-1929; served in the second Lyons Ministry; was Prime Minister, briefly, in 1939; was a minister in the Menzies and Fadden governments of 1940-1941; and was Minister for Health in the Menzies governments of the early 1950's.
