Letters from Captain John Blankett to Lord Sandwich dated 11 December 1774 and 14 March 1775. The first letter is entitled "the Seas of Japan" and outlines the potential for opening up trade with north east China, Korea and the Japanese Islands, as well as providing information about the Ryukyu Islands which is suggested as a suitable place to establish the trade connection. The second letter again outlines the advantages of using the Ryukyu Islands as a trade connection.

William Bligh (1754-1817) was in command of the H.M.S. Bounty when the mutiny of 1789 took place. Francis Godolphin Bond (1765-1839) was a cousin to Bligh and First Lieutenant on the Providence.
