Newspaper cuttings book [manuscript]. 1880-1926.

A small exercise book containing newspaper cuttings dealing in detail with the court case, White vs Hoddle, August 1880. The case concerned the ownership of land in Melbourne and the plaintiff, R.H.D. White, was Robert Hoddle's grandson. Includes a letter giving some biographical details about Hoddle.

Robert Hoddle arrived in New South Wales in 1823 and worked with J. Oxley in Queensland and the Blue Mountains. In 1837 he was appointed senior surveyor at Port Phillip and designed Melbourne, Geelong, Williamstown and many other Victorian settlements. George Baxter Pritchard was head of the school of mines at the Working Men's College (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) 1897-1934.
