Travel diary for a holiday voyage made by Phelan home to Ireland and thence to Rome. From July to November 1869 he travelled in Ireland, visiting, among other places, Cork, Clonmel, Waterford, Lismore, Limerick, Mount Melleray and Maynooth. He subsequently travelled to Rome in the company of Bishop Lanigan of Goulburn and Father Riordan, a Melbourne priest, the journey proceeding via Paris, Marseilles and from there by steamer to Civitta Vecchia. The volume also contains a 75 page diary of parish commitments and events for Kiama, NSW, kept by the Rev. James Columb Sheridan (1846-1919) in 1901-1902. Sermon notes, jottings on parish finances, commitments in Gerringong and Jamberoo and an inventory of household goods are included.

Catholic priest. Ordained in 1853 and stationed at Petersham in 1854, then at Kelso near Bathurst from 1854-1858.
