Manuscript and typed transcriptions of research notes and documents on Australian Catholic Church history and general Australian history, together with related correspondence; typescripts of articles and books by Eris O'Brien including The foundation of Australia (1937); lectures, sermons and addresses on historical and liturgical themes; notebooks; newspaper cuttings; some nineteenth century letters; and a small number of historical pamphlets, periodical issues and local church histories. The papers include material on convicts and transportation; the Irish in several colonies; biographical data on early Catholic clergy in Australia such as James Dixon, James Harold, Peter O'Neil, Jeremiah O'Flynn, John Joseph Therry, Philip Connolly and John McEnroe; and papers on Archbishop Vaughan and Cardinal Moran.
