The collection comprises 155 letters, being mostly correspondence between William Broughton, Sarah Broughton, Phoebe Boydell, Emily Crawley, and members of the Boydell family. The letters deal with family matters such as marriage and education, farming, and various aspects of life in New South Wales. A few letters were written to Broughton family members by individuals such as Ann Deas Thomson. There is also correspondence and notes regarding clerical and diocesan matters, including an 1847 letter from Bishop Selwyn to W. G. Broughton on the new See of Sydney, and notes on proceedings of the 1850 Conference of Bishops of Australasia. This collection has been microfilmed. Microfilm of Broughton Papers at The King's School, Canterbury is also held.
