Bishop William Grant Broughton was the first Anglican bishop in Australia. He was instrumental in developing The King's School, Parramatta.

W. G. Broughton, 1788-1853, was born in Westminster and ordained deacon and priest in 1818. He was appointed Archdeacon of New South Wales in 1829, and became the first Anglican Bishop of Australia in 1836. When the See was divided in 1847 he was made Bishop of Sydney. He died in London in 1853.

William Broughton was appointed Archdeacon of the Church of England in New South Wales in 1929, in succession to Thomas Hobbes Scott. He was consecrated a Bishop in 1835; became involved in the debate over public education with Governor Bourke and Gipps; and died in London in 1853.
