Letter : to the Marquis of Normanby. 1840.

Letter written by Charles Dickens addressed to George Augustus Constantine, 2nd Marquess of Normanby, Secretary of State for the Home Office about the treatment and punishment of convicts and convict transportation to Australia. Lord Normanby was responsible for the transportation of convicts to the colonies. Charles Dickens was profoundly interested in social conditions that prevailed and expresses this concern in his letter. Transcript of letter also included.
