Lieut. Phillip Parker King undertook a number of hydrographic surveying and charting voyages around Australia between 1817 and 1822 in H.M. Cutter Mermaid and H.M. Brig Bathurst. Geologist and clergyman; headmaster, King's School, Parramatta, 1839-1840, with charge of parishes of Castle Hill and Dural, 1839-1844, and Campbelltown, 1844-1846; Rector of St. Thomas' Church, North Sydney, 1846-1870. He also made many researches into the geology of N.S.W. and Queensland and made several finds of goldfields. His son, M. W. S. Clarke was an officer in the Artillery Volunteer Corps.
