Almanacs [manuscript]. 1851.

Small brown leather bound Holden's Original Pocket Almanac and Tide Table compiled by George Holden, 1851. This was used as a notebook / diary by Henry Judd ca. 1869. The hand writing of the original diary entries differ from those later in the book.

Judd was a keen amateur explorer, historian and prospector. He may have visited the Weld River, Tasmania as early as 1871 in search of gold and other minerals, and acompanied by other early settlers, made several trips to the Weld throughout the later years of the nineteenth century. He and others formed the Franklin Prospecting Association around 1880 and found gold, pegging out claims on the Weld between 1880 and the 1920's. Most were for gold, but other minerals such as nickel and osmoridium ...
