Collection is in two parts. The first comprises research for "The puzzled patriots : the story of the Australia First Movement" published in 1968. The second includes correspondence relating to the literary journal, "The Austrovert". There are transcripts, newspaper cuttings and magazines. Some of the correspondence is from well known literary figures such as Judith Wright, Arthur Upfield, Kylie Tennant and Xavier Herbert.

Bruce Muirden was born in Melbourne and educated at Adelaide University where he studied history. He worked as a journalist in Australia and the United Kingdom. Kylie Tennant was a novelist and short-story writer who had also published works on Australian history. She had been a member of the Commonwealth Literary Fund Advisory Board since 1961.
