Correspondence with Ngaire von Sturmer, 1983-1986, mainly concerned with research undertaken by Mrs. Shennan on Mrs. von Sturner's behalf on the families of early Victorian settlers, Sylvester Coleman, merchant, John Mayne Conolly, squatter, Acheson S.J. French, Police Magistrate, Robert Hickson, squatter, James Moore, squatter, John Watton, doctor and Medical Superintendent, Mount Rouse aboriginal station, Thomas Goodisson, publican and pound-keeper, and also on Ellen Clacy (Mrs. Charles Clacy), author of " A lady's visit to the gold diggings of Australia," published in 1853.

Acheson Jeremiah French (a.k.a. Ffrench) was the first Police Magistrate for the Hamilton district from 1840 to 1847. He lived at 'Monivae', a two-storey bluestone mansion located just off Ballarat Road, which was built c. 1878.
