Communist trade union leader. Signed on as ordinary seaman on the "Eucla" in 1924 and joined the Seamen's Union. Subsequently became a member of the Coastal Dock Rivers and Harbour Works Union and was Secretary of that Union and its successors for 25 years. Retired from the Maritime Workers Union in 1973.
