LeGrand Guerry was born in Florence, South Carolina on February 3, 1873. He graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and then attended the University of Georgia Medical College. He received his medical degree in 1896. After completing his internship at City Hospital in Augusta, Georgia and serving as a demonstrator of anatomy at the University of Georgia Medical College, Dr. Guerry returned to South Carolina in 1900.
