Elwood Evans was born about 1828. By the early 1850's he was living in Olympia, WA. He was one of the first attorneys to practice in Olympia. George Traill Allan, 1806-1892, was born in Creiff, Scotland, and came to Canada in 1830 as a clerk with the Hudson's Bay Company. The following year he was assigned to Fort Vancouver, where he served until 1841, when he was transferred to the Hawaiian Islands. He returned to Oregon via California, settling first in Oregon City, where he ran a mercantile business. Elwood Evans (1828-1898), born in Philadelphia, went to Oregon Territory in 1851 as deputy collector of customs at Nisqually. From 1859 to 1861, he served as mayor of the newly incorporated town of Olympia, Washington.
