Allan, George T.

George Traill Allan, 1806-1892, was born in Creiff, Scotland, and came to Canada in 1830 as a clerk with the Hudson's Bay Company. The following year he was assigned to Fort Vancouver, where he served until 1841, when he was transferred to the Hawaiian Islands. He returned to Oregon via California, settling first in Oregon City, where he ran a mercantile business. He moved to Scottsburgh, Oregon, in 1851, and in 1861 he took up residence in Cathlamet, Washington, where he was associated with George B. Roberts and Alexander D. Bernie. Frederick M. Strong was an attorney of Portland, Oregon, the son of Willim Strong.

George T. Allan was a clerk with the Hudson Bay Company and later was a storekeeper at Scottsburg and at Oregon City. He later wrote several accounts of his travels in early Oregon based on the diaries that he kept.
