Newton C. Miller letters, 1827-1892.

Written to his family in the east concerning experiences in the Mexican War, gold mining on the Yuba and American Rivers, partnership in the Middle Yuba Canal and Water Co. and Milton Mining and Water Co., and residence in North San Juan from about 1856. With this: letter from N.P. Brown and several receipts and invoices, 1874-1891.

History In 1880 one of California's principle water ditches belonged to the Milton Mining and Water Company. One hundred miles long, it conveyed water to the Milton Mine for the company's hydraulic mining activities. Three dams, forming the English reservoir, were also owned by the company.
