Collected documents, largely copies, relating to the viceroys and other officials of New Spain, and originating in Mexico or Spain. There are twenty-four numbered items in the first volume, which are: memorial in defense of the Duke of Escalona, ca. 1642; instructions of the Duke of Linares for his successor, the Marquis of Valero, 1716; documents relating to the entry of the Marquis of las Amarillas into Mexico City and of his journey from Veracruz, 1755; Viceroy Cajigal's journey from Mexico City to Veracruz, 1760, and some letters written by him; a description of the domestic quarters in the viceregal palace in Mexico City; Viceroy Bucareli's route from Veracruz to Mexico City, 1771; documents exonerating Colonel Domingo Elizondo from a charge of disobedience, 1765-1766; (Cont.) activities and illness of Bucareli, 1771-1779; political verses; letters of Viceroy Vizarrón y Eguiarreta to the King, 1740, regarding the arrival of a new viceroy; documents relating to proceedings of the Council of the Indies concerning the charges of Franciso de la Torre against former Viceroy Cerralvo; the "Respuesta" of Viceroy Vizarrón, 1742, in the residencia proceedings against him; decision taken in the residencia of the Duque de la Conquista, 1743; a fragment relating to the defense of Alonso de Estrada, treasurer of Hernán Cortés, 1529; funeral oration in tribute to Cardinal-Archbishop Lorenzana, 1804; Torres y Rueda's transmittal to the Audiencia of his ad interim powers, 1649; and letter of Viceroy Alburquerque, 1660, in regard to an attempt to assassinate him. Volume two, M-M 250, contains documents relating to the residencia of Cortés and his officials, 1528-1529; papers concerning trade with the Philippines, and for facilities at Acapulco, 1766-1768; instructions of the Duque de Linares for his successor, 1716; the Marquis de las Amarillas' journey to Mexico City; a report to the King on New Spain, ca. 1767; and duplicate of Viceroy Vizarrón's "Respuesta" to his residencia, 1742.
