American broadsides from pre-Revolution to post Civil War, 1790-1924.

This collection has an incredible amount of material pertaining to the Civil War and the War of 1812. Materials include Confederate materials such as military orders, treasury notes, news clippings and pay slips, slave bills of sale and political cartoons regarding the fugitive slave act, as well as treaties with Native American tribes. There is a series of oversized items, including advertisements, posters, proclamations and certificates. Song lyrics to several Civil War era songs are available, "Old John Brown, a Song for Every Southern Man", "Dear Mother, I've Come Home to Eat", and "Jackson's Victory" among others. Objects of particular interest include General Lee's orders for surrender, an endorsement by the New York Times of Grover Cleveland, funeral materials for President William Harrison, Death of the Confederacy Certificate, and materials from France recognizing the independence of the United States and proclamations by Senator James Gillespie Blaine, Theodore Roosevelt, William McKinley, Herbert Hoover, Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge.
