Louisiana State University Assembly Center records, 1970-1988.

The LSU Assembly Center records consist primarily of microfilmed scrapbooks of clippings of events that took place in the Assembly Center. Notable items include press coverage of inaugural balls for Edwin Edwards and David Treen, national touring concerts and shows, and LSU's commencement and registration events. National sporting events such as the 1983 Special Olympic Summer Games, the 1985 National Sports Festival, and the 1987 Senior Olympic Games also received extensive coverage. Also included are news articles related to Governor Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign stop in Baton Rouge and the protests by students at Southern University over their marching band's participation in Reagan's event. In addition, this collection contains documents from the early stages of creating a promotional brochure for the Assembly Center, including materials from comparable facilities solicited by LSU for research purposes.
